A facial peel is designed to restore the youthful look of your skin. It is not a form of facelift nor a surgery per se. Instead, it is a technique where the outer layer of your skin is literally peeled off to reveal new skin below. The technique can produce dynamite results when the goal is to resolve wrinkles and blemishes. It can also be used to addressed skin weathered from excessive exposure to the sun or which has developed uneven pigmentation. Importantly, a peel is not designed nor will it accomplish any kind of a lift for parts of the face that have developed a droop including eyelids. Such restorations require facelift surgery.

Unlike a surgical procedure, a peel is not for everyone. This is because the peel is only best for certain skin types and pigments. You should consult with a medical professional to find out if you are a candidate for the procedure. In general, however, individuals with fair skin and light damage gain the best benefits.

In general, a peel takes roughly one to two hours for the entire face. Some candidates require less extensive peels and less time is required as a result. You are not sedated unless there is reason specific to your situation.

Patients of all ages may desire improvement in the fullness or bulk of the vermilion (the red part of the lip). Several techniques are available to reproduce fullness of the lips. Each patient must be evaluated on an individual bases to determine which technique will work best for their desired results.

As we age, the distance between the base of the nose and the pigmented portion of the lip increases, causing a thinning appearance. This can often be corrected through a procedure know as a lift. Aging lips also have deep vertical lines or lipstick lines. These lines can be corrected through the use of injectable collagen or synthetic dermis.

Some patients desire increased definition of the vermilion border (red pigmented portion) of the lip. This definition is usually accomplished using collagen injections or several new products currently under evaluation.

During the initial consultation, your plastic surgeon will discuss what you would like to change about your lips. After the examine of your lips, you will both decide on the technique that best suits your needs. At the end of your consultation, our professional photographers will take pictures of your lips. These photographs are used to plan your procedure and will remain confidential in your medical chart.

Typically procedures are done at the doctors office, unless they are done with another associated procedure that requires the outpatient surgery center. Your lips will be sore and swollen for the next 1-2 weeks. You will need to return in 7 days following surgery and your doctor will do routine follow up visits at 2 weeks, 6 weeks, and 6 months after your surgery.

Am I a good candidate? The answer to this question can only be answered by your plastic surgeon after careful review of your complete health history and a thorough consultation.

You should avoid or be off all diet or over the counter weight medications. The only homeopathic medications are those recommended by your plastic surgeon. It is especially important to be off St. Johns Wort and Ginseng, which can cause adverse effects during anesthesia. Please stop taking all aspirin-like products, Advil, and ibuprofen as these medications can cause bleeding problems. Please tell your surgeon what medications you are taking (prescription or non-prescription) to ensure the safety of any surgery. You must remember that permanent makeup is a “low”, not a “no” maintenance procedure. You eventually will need a color touchup when your color fades. Once the color lightens you will know that you are ready for your refresher color boost! You cannot avoid this fact – everything fades with time, especially anything out in the sun.
Q14) What about allergies?

A14) Those with allergies are particularly good candidates to permanent makeup. If you are prone to allergies, you may ask the technician about an allergy test. The allergy test will be done using a red pigment. The red pigment is usually the one that will cause the most noticeable allergic reaction if there will be a reaction at all. Reactions are rare.
Q15) What does it cost?

A15) Fees vary according to the creation required and will be determined at a free consultation. But remember, you get what you pay for. You can expect to pay anywhere from $300-$600 per procedure, depending on your technician and your location. The smart thing to do is to for sure not to choose the cheapest artist, but you need not choose the most expensive artist either.

A16) The eyebrows are drawn on with semi-permanent marker prior to the start of any procedure, so you will see exactly what is going to be done before anything permanent is applied.
